Twenty-six Fuquay-Varina High School Choral Music students participated in Heritage Music Festival's Elite Performance Series with the National Youth Choir in Carnegie Hall, under the direction of internationally known conductor, Eph Ehly. All groups participating in the choir were selected by audition cd. The students learned the music for the concert on their own and then worked with Mrs. McCoy to fine tune the selections before traveling to New York City. Once at the festival, the singers spent long hours in rehearsal with students from high schools around the country preparing the final concert with Dr. Ehly. The rehearsals culminated with a thrilling concert performance in beautiful Carnegie Hall. Many Fuquay-Varina parents either chaperoned the trip or traveled to New York City to attend the concert. While in New York the students also had the opportunity to tour New York City, visiting sites that included Ground Zero, the Empire State Building, Central Park, Julliard School of Music, Rockefeller Centre and Grand Central Station. They attended the two Broadway musicals Wicked and Phantom of the Opera. They viewed the Statue of Liberty and toured Ellis Island. They became very familiar with the New York City Subway system. They also had time for shopping and enjoying typical New York pizza and deli fare, as well as eating at two well established New York City restaurants. It was certainly a trip that will always be remembered by those who participated!
